Possible Causes
Open Y wire between thermostat and condenser, Faulty cooling relay, Safety lockout at outdoor unit, Incorrect system type configuration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to both indoor and outdoor units before working on control circuits.
- Step 1 – Confirm cooling mode: Set the thermostat to Cool and lower the setpoint. Verify that the cooling demand icon appears.
- Step 2 – Check system configuration: In the installer menu, ensure the system type (heat pump vs conventional) is correctly set for your Atlantic installation.
- Step 3 – Inspect Y wiring: At the thermostat and air handler, verify that the Y terminal is wired correctly and securely. Repair any damaged cable.
- Step 4 – Outdoor unit lockout: Many condensers have high/low pressure switches or time delays. Check for indicator LEDs or error codes on the outdoor unit and reset if necessary.
- Step 5 – Relay test (advanced): With power on and caution, measure voltage at the Y terminal when cooling is demanded. No voltage indicates a thermostat output fault; replace the thermostat if confirmed.
