Possible Causes
Incorrect system mode (set to HEAT or OFF), Cooling disabled in installer configuration, Failed Y1/Y2 output on Bryant smart thermostat, Loose Y1/Y2 wire at thermostat or indoor control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the indoor unit at the breaker before handling wiring.
Steps to troubleshoot:
- 1. Check mode and setpoint: Ensure the thermostat is in COOL or AUTO mode and the setpoint is at least 3°F below room temperature.
- 2. Verify schedule and holds: Temporarily disable schedules and set a manual cool setpoint to rule out programming issues.
- 3. Inspect Y wiring: Remove the thermostat and confirm the Y1 (and Y2 if used) wire is firmly connected. At the indoor control board, verify the same conductor is on the Y/Y1 terminal.
- 4. Test output (technician): A technician can jumper R to Y at the control board to see if cooling starts. If it does, but the thermostat never sends Y, the thermostat output is faulty.
- 5. Replace thermostat if needed: Install a new Bryant smart thermostat if the Y output has failed.
