Possible Causes
System mode not set to HEAT or AUTO, Heating stages disabled in thermostat configuration, Failed W1/W2 or heat call output on thermostat, Loose W or communication wiring to Bryant furnace/air handler
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the furnace/air handler at the breaker before touching wiring.
Steps to troubleshoot:
- 1. Confirm mode and setpoint: Set the thermostat to HEAT and raise the setpoint at least 3°F above room temperature.
- 2. Check schedule: Override any schedule with a manual heat setpoint to rule out programming.
- 3. Inspect W wiring: At the thermostat and indoor control board, ensure the W/W1 (and W2 if used) wire is firmly connected.
- 4. Technician jumper test: A technician can jumper R to W at the control board. If the furnace starts, but it does not respond to the thermostat, the thermostat’s heat output is likely faulty.
- 5. Replace thermostat if needed: Install a new Bryant smart thermostat and configure heating stages correctly.
