Possible Causes
Corrupted non-volatile memory, Failed real-time clock (RTC) chip, Low backup capacitor or coin cell (if fitted), Firmware corruption
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate power before opening the thermostat housing.
- Soft reset: Perform a soft reset or factory reset using the procedure in the Drayton manual. Re-enter the schedule and observe if E7 reappears.
- Check backup power: On models with an internal backup cell or supercapacitor, inspect for leakage or swelling. These components are often not user-replaceable.
- Firmware update: For Drayton Wiser smart thermostats, use the Wiser app to check for and apply firmware updates, which may correct memory handling issues.
- Replace thermostat: If E7 persists after reset and firmware update, replace the thermostat front module or complete unit, as internal memory/RTC faults are not serviceable.
