Possible Causes
Weak Wi‑Fi signal at thermostat location, Incorrect Wi‑Fi password or SSID change, Router blocking ecobee via MAC filtering, Outdated router firmware or DHCP issues
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No electrical work is required. All steps are software/network related.
- Step 1 – Check router and internet: Confirm other devices can access the internet. Reboot the router and modem.
- Step 2 – Check Wi‑Fi signal strength: On ecobee, go to Menu > About > Wi‑Fi and verify signal strength. If low, move the router closer or add a Wi‑Fi extender.
- Step 3 – Reconnect Wi‑Fi: On ecobee, go to Menu > Settings > Wi‑Fi, forget the current network, then re-add it with the correct password.
- Step 4 – Disable MAC filtering: If your router uses MAC address filtering, add the ecobee’s MAC (shown under About) to the allowed list.
- Step 5 – Update router firmware: Log into your router’s admin page and update firmware. Ensure DHCP is enabled so the ecobee can obtain an IP address.
- Step 6 – Factory reset network (last resort): On ecobee, go to Menu > Settings > Reset > Reset Registration/Wi‑Fi and then re-register the device in the ecobee app.
