Possible Causes

Tripped float switch due to clogged condensate drain, Blown low-voltage fuse on furnace/air handler board, Failed outdoor unit contactor or capacitor, Miswired Y terminal at ecobee or furnace

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power to both indoor and outdoor units at the breakers before opening panels. Beware of sharp sheet metal.

  • Step 1 – Check air handler/furnace LED codes: Look for diagnostic codes indicating a float switch or safety lockout.
  • Step 2 – Inspect condensate drain: Locate the condensate drain line and trap. If clogged, clear it with a wet/dry vacuum at the outside termination and flush with water.
  • Step 3 – Verify Y wiring: Confirm the Y1 wire is secure at the ecobee and on the Y terminal at the furnace/air handler, and that the cable to the outdoor unit is connected to Y and C.
  • Step 4 – Check outdoor unit: With power off, inspect the contactor and capacitor for obvious damage. With power on and a cooling call, listen for the contactor pulling in. If it does not, measure 24 VAC at the coil; if present but not engaging, replace the contactor.
  • Step 5 – Call a technician if compressor or refrigerant issues are suspected: If the outdoor fan runs but no cooling occurs, professional service is required.
