Possible Causes
Loose or broken G wire between ecobee and furnace, Failed blower motor or capacitor, Blower relay failure on furnace control board, Misconfigured fan control settings in ecobee
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power to the furnace/air handler at the breaker before opening panels. Blower compartments may contain sharp edges.
- Step 1 – Check ecobee fan settings: Ensure fan is set to Auto or On as desired under Menu > System. In installer settings, confirm fan is controlled by the furnace, not ecobee, if applicable.
- Step 2 – Inspect G wire: At the thermostat and furnace board, verify the G wire is secure on the G terminals.
- Step 3 – Test fan manually: With power on, jumper R to G at the furnace control board. If the blower runs, the board and motor are functional and the issue is between the thermostat and board. If it does not run, the blower motor, capacitor, or board relay may be faulty.
- Step 4 – Inspect blower motor and capacitor: Look for bulging or leaking capacitors and seized blower wheels. Replacement of these components is typically a technician-level repair.
