Possible Causes
Open safety switch on furnace (door switch, rollout, limit), Blown low-voltage fuse on furnace board, Failed ignition control or gas valve, Miswired W/AUX terminals at ecobee or furnace
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power to the furnace at the breaker. If you smell gas, evacuate and contact your gas utility immediately.
- Step 1 – Check furnace status lights: Open the furnace panel and observe any diagnostic LED codes on the control board. Refer to the furnace manual for code meanings.
- Step 2 – Verify door switch: Ensure the furnace door is fully closed and engaging the safety switch.
- Step 3 – Inspect low-voltage fuse: Replace a blown 3A fuse with the same rating. If it blows again, there is a short in thermostat or equipment wiring.
- Step 4 – Confirm thermostat wiring: Verify W1/AUX wiring at both the ecobee and furnace board. Tighten any loose connections.
- Step 5 – Test heat call: With power on, jumper R to W at the furnace board. If the furnace starts, the issue is between the thermostat and board. If it does not, the furnace controls or safeties require professional diagnosis.
