Possible Causes
SmartSensor battery dead or installed backwards, Sensor too far from thermostat, RF interference from metal surfaces or other devices, Defective SmartSensor or thermostat RF module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No electrical hazards. Handle coin-cell batteries safely.
- Step 1 – Replace battery: Install a new battery in the SmartSensor, ensuring correct polarity.
- Step 2 – Move sensor closer: Bring the sensor within a few feet of the thermostat during pairing.
- Step 3 – Start pairing mode: On ecobee, go to Menu > Settings > Sensors > Add Sensor and follow prompts.
- Step 4 – Avoid metal and interference: Do not mount sensors on metal doors or near large appliances. Keep them away from Wi‑Fi routers and cordless phone bases.
- Step 5 – Test with another sensor: If multiple sensors fail to pair, the thermostat’s RF module may be defective and the thermostat should be replaced.
