Possible Causes
Loose thermostat on backplate causing poor pin contact, Weak 24V transformer under heavy load, Miswired PEK causing voltage drops, Firmware bug or corrupted configuration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power to the furnace/air handler before adjusting wiring. No high-voltage work at the thermostat itself.
- Step 1 – Reseat thermostat: Remove the ecobee from its backplate and inspect the pins for debris or bending. Snap it back firmly until fully seated.
- Step 2 – Check wiring tightness: Ensure R and C wires are fully inserted and clamped at the thermostat and furnace board.
- Step 3 – Evaluate transformer load: If multiple devices (zone boards, humidifiers, etc.) share the 24V transformer, it may be overloaded. A technician can measure voltage under load and upgrade the transformer if needed.
- Step 4 – Update firmware: Connect to Wi‑Fi and allow the ecobee to update. Firmware updates often address stability issues.
- Step 5 – Factory reset if needed: As a last resort, perform a full reset under Menu > Settings > Reset > Reset All and reconfigure the thermostat.
