Ecobee
Ineffective Room Averaging / Sensor Placement Issue
Thermostat shows large temperature swings between different rooms despite SmartSensors installed
Advertisements
Possible Causes
SmartSensors placed in atypical locations (near vents, windows), Sensors not included in active Comfort Setting, Closed doors blocking airflow, HVAC zoning not integrated with ecobee
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No electrical hazards.
- Step 1 – Review Comfort Settings: Ensure all desired SmartSensors are included in the active Comfort Setting (Home, Away, Sleep).
- Step 2 – Reposition sensors: Move sensors away from direct sunlight, exterior walls, and supply vents. Place them at interior wall height in representative locations.
- Step 3 – Keep doors open when possible: Closed doors can isolate rooms and prevent accurate averaging.
- Step 4 – Consider zoning: If your home has separate zones not controlled by ecobee, temperature differences may be unavoidable without integrating zoning controls.
