Possible Causes
Heat pump reversing valve misconfigured, Low refrigerant or AC system fault (not thermostat), Incorrect system type selected in Geo setup, Stuck contactor in outdoor unit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the outdoor unit and indoor unit at the breakers before any physical inspection.
- Step 1 – Verify thermostat settings: Confirm the thermostat is in Cool mode with a setpoint at least 3–5°F below room temperature.
- Step 2 – Check system type and O/B setting: In the Geo equipment settings, ensure the correct system type (heat pump vs conventional) is selected and the O/B reversing valve setting matches the heat pump manufacturer's requirements.
- Step 3 – Observe outdoor unit: With power restored and a call for cooling, check if the outdoor fan and compressor are running. If not, the issue may be with the outdoor unit, contactor, or high‑pressure switch.
- Step 4 – Filter and airflow: Ensure the indoor air filter is clean and supply/return vents are open to allow proper cooling.
- Step 5 – Call HVAC technician: If the thermostat is configured correctly but cooling performance is poor or warm, an HVAC technician should check refrigerant charge and system operation.
