Possible Causes
Heat pump O/B reversing valve configured incorrectly, O/B wire miswired or not connected, Geo thermostat set to wrong system type, Stuck reversing valve in outdoor unit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the HVAC system at the breakers before adjusting wiring.
- Step 1 – Confirm system type: Determine if you have a heat pump system. If unsure, check the outdoor unit model or documentation.
- Step 2 – Check O/B wiring: If you have a heat pump, verify the O/B wire is connected to the O/B terminal on the Geo wall plate and at the air handler/heat pump control board.
- Step 3 – Verify O/B setting: In the thermostat equipment settings, ensure the O/B reversing valve is set to energize in the correct mode (cool or heat) per your heat pump manufacturer's specification.
- Step 4 – Test modes: After adjusting settings, test both Heat and Cool modes to confirm the correct temperature air is delivered.
- Step 5 – Check outdoor unit: If wiring and settings are correct but the system still blows cold in Heat, the reversing valve may be stuck or the outdoor unit may be malfunctioning. Contact an HVAC technician.
