Possible Causes
Fan set to ON in hidden settings, Stuck G output on thermostat, Short between R and G in thermostat cable, Goodman furnace control board configured for continuous circulation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the furnace/air handler at the breaker before working on wiring.
Steps to stop continuous fan (when not desired):
- 1. Verify fan mode: Confirm the thermostat fan setting is AUTO, not ON or CIRCULATE.
- 2. Check advanced settings: In installer settings, look for any continuous fan or circulation options and disable them.
- 3. Inspect G wiring: Remove the thermostat and check for a short between R and G. Temporarily disconnect the G wire at the thermostat; if the fan stops, the thermostat or cable is the cause.
- 4. Check furnace board: At the Goodman control board, ensure there is no jumper between R and G and that the fan relay is not stuck closed (this may require a technician).
- 5. Replace thermostat if needed: If the G output is energized even when fan is set to AUTO, replace the thermostat.
