Possible Causes
Cooling mode disabled in thermostat settings, Miswired Y1/Y2 terminals, Incorrect system type (heat-only) configuration, Failed Y1 output on thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to indoor and outdoor units at their breakers before changing wiring.
Steps to restore cooling call:
- 1. Verify mode and setpoint: Ensure the thermostat is in COOL or AUTO mode and the setpoint is several degrees below the current room temperature.
- 2. Check configuration: Confirm the thermostat is configured for cooling (AC or heat pump) in the installer menu.
- 3. Inspect Y wiring: Verify Y1 (and Y2 if used) are correctly connected at the thermostat and Goodman outdoor unit control board.
- 4. Bypass thermostat: With power on, temporarily jumper R to Y1 at the furnace control board. If the outdoor unit starts, the thermostat is not sending a cool call.
- 5. Replace thermostat if needed: If wiring and configuration are correct but the thermostat never energizes Y1, replace the thermostat.
