Possible Causes
Incorrect system type configuration (set to cool-only), Miswired W1/W2 terminals, Heat mode disabled in thermostat settings, Failed W1 output on thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the furnace at the breaker before changing wiring.
Steps to restore heating call:
- 1. Verify mode and setpoint: Ensure the thermostat is in HEAT or AUTO mode and the setpoint is several degrees above the current room temperature.
- 2. Check system configuration: In the installer menu, confirm the system is configured as a furnace or heat pump with heat enabled, matching your Goodman equipment.
- 3. Inspect W wiring: Remove the thermostat and verify the W1 (and W2 if used) wires are firmly connected. At the furnace control board, confirm the same conductors are on W/W1/W2.
- 4. Bypass thermostat: With power on, temporarily jumper R to W1 at the furnace control board. If the furnace starts, the thermostat is not sending a heat call.
- 5. Replace thermostat if needed: If wiring and configuration are correct but the thermostat never energizes W1, replace the thermostat.
