Goodman
Room Temperature Sensing Error
Thermostat temperature reading is inaccurate compared to actual room temperature
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Thermostat installed near heat source or draft, Poor wall insulation behind thermostat, Internal sensor drift, Remote sensor misconfigured
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No high-voltage work is required.
Steps to correct inaccurate temperature readings:
- 1. Compare with reference: Place a reliable thermometer next to the thermostat and compare readings after 15–20 minutes.
- 2. Check location: Ensure the thermostat is not in direct sunlight, above electronics, or in a drafty hallway. If it is, consider relocating it to an interior wall in a representative area.
- 3. Seal wall opening: Remove the thermostat and seal the wall opening with foam or putty to prevent drafts from the wall cavity affecting the sensor.
- 4. Adjust offset: Use the thermostat's temperature calibration or offset setting to correct minor differences (1–3°F).
- 5. Replace thermostat or sensor: If readings are wildly inaccurate and cannot be corrected with offsets, the internal sensor may be failing. Replace the thermostat or use a Goodman remote indoor sensor if supported.
