Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the furnace/air handler and any external transformer at the breaker before touching wiring.
- Check display seating: Gently pull the Nest display off the base and reattach it, ensuring it clicks firmly into place.
- Inspect R and C wiring: With the display removed, verify that R (Rc/Rh) and C wires are fully inserted and clamped in their terminals. Re-strip 3–4 mm of copper if needed.
- Check furnace fuse and power: Remove the furnace/air handler panel and inspect the low-voltage fuse on the control board. Replace with the same rating if blown, after checking for shorts.
- Charge Nest via USB (if supported): Some Nest models allow temporary charging via the USB port on the back of the display. Connect to a USB charger for 1–2 hours, then reattach to the base.
- Restore power and test: Turn breakers back on and see if the display powers up.
If the thermostat remains blank with confirmed 24V at the base, the Nest display or base is likely defective and should be replaced.
