Google Nest
Temperature Sensor Offset or Placement Issue
Nest thermostat shows incorrect room temperature compared to other thermometers
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Nest installed near heat source or draft, Internal temperature sensor drift, Wall cavity drafts behind thermostat, Direct sunlight on thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: Perceived temperature errors are often due to placement rather than hardware failure.
- Check location: Ensure the Nest is not above supply vents, near lamps, electronics, or in direct sunlight.
- Seal wall opening: Remove the display and use foam or putty to seal the wire hole in the wall to prevent drafts from affecting the sensor.
- Use Nest Temperature Sensors: If available, pair remote Nest Temperature Sensors and choose one as the control sensor for that room.
- Adjust schedule and Eco settings: Fine-tune your comfort settings to account for minor offsets.
If the reading is off by more than a few degrees consistently, the internal sensor may be failing and the display may need replacement.
