Blocked ventilation slots causing heat buildup, Thermostat installed on hot surface or above heat source, Failing internal voltage regulator generating excess heat, Shorted component on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Warning: Overheating can damage the thermostat and wiring. Turn off power at the breaker before removing the unit.
- Step 1 – Check installation location:
- Ensure the thermostat is not installed above radiators, heat registers, or in direct sunlight.
- Relocate the thermostat if necessary.
- Step 2 – Inspect ventilation:
- Make sure side and rear ventilation slots are not blocked by paint, wallpaper, or mounting boxes.
- Do not seal the thermostat to the wall with caulk.
- Step 3 – Remove from wall and inspect:
- With power off, remove the thermostat from the wall plate.
- Check for signs of burning, discoloration, or melted plastic on the main PCB.
- Step 4 – Replace thermostat if internal damage is found:
- If any components appear burnt or the unit still overheats after relocation and cleaning, the internal regulator or another component is failing.
- Replace the thermostat immediately.
