Battery Critical
Hive
Severely low thermostat battery voltage
Thermostat shows 'Battery Critical' and may shut down intermittently
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Extremely depleted batteries, One or more failed cells, High resistance at contacts, Prolonged backlight or constant RF retries due to poor signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: This is a battery-only issue; no mains work required.
- Immediate replacement: Replace all batteries immediately with new alkaline cells. Do not continue using the thermostat with critical battery warnings.
- Improve RF signal: If the thermostat is far from the receiver, move it closer or improve line-of-sight to reduce RF retransmissions that drain batteries.
- Check for warmth: If the thermostat feels unusually warm, remove batteries and contact Hive support, as an internal fault may be causing excess current draw.
- Monitor life: After replacement, monitor how long the new batteries last. If less than a few months, the thermostat likely has a hardware fault.
