Check thermostat display: If the screen is blank or slow, replace batteries.
Improve signal: Move the Hive Hub closer to the thermostat or add a compatible Zigbee repeater (e.g. a mains-powered Hive device) between them.
Reduce interference: Keep the hub away from Wi‑Fi routers and other 2.4 GHz devices.
Reboot hub and thermostat: Power cycle both devices and allow several minutes for reconnection.
When to call a pro: Persistent non-response with good signal suggests a failed Zigbee module in the thermostat.
