Possible Causes
Incorrect mode setting in app, Firmware glitch, Sensor reading out of range, Safety lock triggered due to comms loss
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No internal access required.
- Check mode in app: Open the Hive app and ensure the heating mode is set to Schedule or Manual, not Frost Protect or Holiday.
- Override on thermostat: Use the thermostat controls to set a higher target temperature and confirm that the heating demand indicator appears.
- Check sensor reading: If the room temperature shows as extremely low or high, a sensor fault may be forcing frost mode; see sensor-related entries.
- Reboot devices: Power cycle the thermostat (remove batteries or power) and the Hive Hub, then recheck modes.
- When to call a pro: If the thermostat cannot exit frost mode despite correct settings, the firmware or main PCB may be faulty and require replacement.
