Possible Causes
Depleted thermostat batteries, Loose battery contacts, Faulty thermostat power board, Incorrect wiring or no 12V/24V feed (for wired Hive models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Battery replacement is safe. For any work on wired Hive thermostats or receivers, isolate power at the fused spur or consumer unit before removing covers.
- Replace batteries: For battery-powered Hive thermostats, remove the thermostat from its wall plate, open the battery compartment, and replace all batteries with fresh, high-quality alkaline cells in the correct orientation.
- Check battery contacts: Inspect the metal contacts for corrosion or bending. Gently clean with a dry cloth and ensure they press firmly against the batteries.
- Check wall plate connection: Reseat the thermostat onto its wall mounting plate, ensuring it clicks fully into place so the low-voltage contacts engage.
- For wired models: Verify that the boiler and Hive receiver have power. Check the fused spur (switch on, fuse intact). If comfortable and qualified, confirm that the low-voltage supply from the receiver to the thermostat is present using a multimeter.
- Factory reset (if screen flickers): If the screen briefly lights then goes blank, perform a reset per Hive instructions (usually via a small reset button or menu option) after confirming good batteries.
- When to call a pro: If new batteries and reseating do not restore power, the thermostat power board or display module may be faulty and should be replaced by Hive or a professional.
