Possible Causes
Faulty motorised zone valve, Stuck valve spindle, Incorrect wiring between Hive receiver and valve, Failed relay output on receiver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Motorised valves and receivers are mains-voltage. Isolate power at the fused spur before removing covers or touching wiring.
- Listen for valve movement: When calling for heat, listen near the motorised valve for motor noise. No sound may indicate a failed motor or no power.
- Manual lever test: Use the manual lever on the valve head (if present) to open it. If heating works when manually opened, the valve motor or control signal is at fault.
- Check receiver output: With power isolated, inspect wiring from the Hive receiver heating ON terminal to the valve. Tighten any loose connections.
- Test valve head (pro level): A professional can test for 230V at the valve motor when heating is demanded. If voltage is present but the valve does not move, replace the valve head.
- When to call a pro: Due to mains voltage and water system implications, valve errors should generally be handled by a heating engineer.
