Possible Causes
Faulty relay in Hive receiver, Broken call-for-heat wiring to boiler, Boiler in lockout or low-pressure state, Motorised valve not opening
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: This involves mains voltage and possibly gas equipment. Isolate power at the fused spur before touching the receiver or wiring. Do not open the boiler casing unless qualified.
- Check boiler status: Look at the boiler display for error codes, low pressure, or lockout indicators. Reset or repressurise only if you know how and it is safe.
- Test receiver override: Press the heating button on the Hive receiver. If the boiler still does not fire, the issue is likely with wiring, the receiver relay, or the boiler.
- Listen for relay click: When the thermostat calls for heat, listen at the receiver for a click. No click suggests a failed relay or control board.
- Inspect wiring (competent persons only): With power off, check that live, neutral, and switched live connections are secure in the receiver and at the boiler control terminals.
- When to call a pro: If you cannot identify a simple wiring issue or the boiler shows its own fault, contact a heating engineer.
