Possible Causes
Receiver relay contacts welded closed, Motorised valve microswitch stuck, Incorrect wiring bypassing thermostat, Boiler internal control fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off power to the heating system at the fused spur or consumer unit before investigating. Radiators may be hot.
- Confirm thermostat setting: Set the thermostat to a very low temperature or OFF and verify that it shows no heating demand.
- Check receiver LEDs: If the heating LED is off but the boiler still runs, the relay may be stuck closed or a valve microswitch is feeding the boiler.
- Isolate receiver: With power off, disconnect the call-for-heat wire from the receiver output terminal. Restore power briefly: if the boiler still runs, the fault is not in the receiver but in wiring or boiler controls.
- When to call a pro: A stuck relay or valve microswitch requires replacement of the Hive receiver or motorised valve head by a professional.
