Honeywell Home
Internal Heat from Electronics or Wall Cavity Heat
Thermostat or surrounding wall feels unusually warm to the touch

Possible Causes
Thermostat mounted on uninsulated exterior wall, Heat from electronics affecting sensor, Wall cavity air leakage from attic or furnace room
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before removing the thermostat from the wall.
- Inspect wall opening: Remove the thermostat and check for large gaps in the wall behind it. Warm air from wall cavities can heat the thermostat.
- Seal gaps: Use non‑flammable insulation or foam to seal around the low‑voltage cable opening, avoiding contact with the wires.
- Install wall plate insulation: Some Honeywell Home thermostats include an insulating foam gasket; install it between the thermostat and wall.
- Relocate thermostat if necessary: If mounted on a hot exterior wall or above a heat source, consider relocating to an interior wall for more accurate readings.
