Thermostat is powered but HVAC system will not turn on in either heating or cooling mode.

Safety: Turn off power to HVAC equipment before working on wiring. Use a multimeter only if you are trained.

• Step 1 – Confirm settings: Verify the thermostat is set to the correct mode (Heat/Cool/Auto) and that the setpoint is above/below room temperature as appropriate.
• Step 2 – Check system configuration: In the installer menu, confirm the correct system type (conventional, heat pump, stages) is selected for your Johnson Controls‑controlled equipment.
• Step 3 – Inspect wiring at thermostat: Remove the thermostat and verify that R, C, W/W1, Y/Y1, and G wires are correctly landed and secure.
• Step 4 – Inspect wiring at equipment: At the furnace/air handler control board, confirm that the thermostat cable conductors are firmly attached to the corresponding terminals.
• Step 5 – Voltage test: With a call for heat or cool, measure between R and the corresponding call terminal (W or Y) at the furnace board. If 24 VAC is present but the equipment does not start, the issue is in the equipment. If no voltage is present, the thermostat or cable is at fault.
• Step 6 – Replace faulty part: Repair or replace the thermostat cable if continuity is lost, or replace the thermostat main control board if it is not sending calls.
