Possible Causes
Thermostat installed over warm wall cavity, Excessive current draw from accessories powered through thermostat, Internal regulator stress
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off HVAC power before removing the thermostat.
- Assess location: Check if the wall behind the thermostat contains hot plumbing or is exposed to attic heat. If so, relocation may be needed.
- Reduce accessory load: If a humidifier, dehumidifier, or other accessory is powered through the thermostat, consult the Lux manual to ensure current limits are not exceeded. Rewire accessories to be powered from the furnace board if necessary.
- Monitor operation: After changes, monitor the thermostat temperature. Slight warmth is normal, but it should not be hot.
- Replace thermostat: If overheating persists with proper wiring and location, replace the thermostat to avoid damage.
