Possible Causes
Loose ribbon cable between display/touch panel and main PCB, Damaged capacitive touch sensor IC, Moisture ingress on front panel causing false touches
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before disassembling the thermostat.
Steps:
- Clean the front panel: Wipe the display and touch area with a dry, lint-free cloth. Remove any condensation or cleaning fluid residue that may cause false touches.
- Inspect internal connections: Remove the thermostat from the wall and carefully open the housing (if serviceable). Check the flat ribbon cable or connector between the display/touch board and the main PCB. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Check for physical damage: Look for cracks in the glass or plastic front, or burn marks on the UI board. If damaged, the UI board must be replaced.
- Factory reset via hardware button: If available, use a recessed reset button on the PCB to reset the device, then test the UI again.
Outcome: If E9 persists and the UI remains unresponsive while app control works, replace the display/touch panel assembly or the entire thermostat.
