Possible Causes

Weak internal power supply capacitor, Voltage sag on line when heater engages, Loose line or neutral connection at thermostat terminals

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker and verify power is off before tightening any terminals.

Steps to check:

  • Inspect line and neutral connections: Remove the thermostat and ensure LINE and NEUTRAL (if used) are firmly secured. Tighten terminal screws to manufacturer torque specs.
  • Check for shared circuits: If multiple heavy loads share the same circuit, consider moving some loads to a different breaker to reduce voltage sag.
  • Monitor voltage: If you have a multimeter and are qualified, measure line voltage at the thermostat with the heater off and on. A large drop indicates a supply issue.

If wiring and supply are sound but E16 persists, the internal power supply on the thermostat may be failing under load. Replace the thermostat.
