Possible Causes
Loose C wire connection at Nest base, Loose C wire at furnace control board, Undersized transformer unable to supply Nest and HVAC loads, Incorrect installation of Nest Power Connector or external power adapter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power to the HVAC system before working on wiring.
- Verify C at Nest: Remove the Nest display and ensure the C wire is fully inserted and clamped.
- Check C at furnace: Confirm the same conductor is attached securely to the C terminal on the furnace/air handler control board.
- Inspect Power Connector: If using a Nest Power Connector, verify each lead is on the correct terminal (R, C, and call terminal) per the installation guide.
- Measure voltage: With power restored, measure between R and C at the Nest base. If voltage sags significantly when the system runs, the transformer may be undersized and need upgrading.
- Reduce load: Disconnect any non‑essential accessories (e.g., extra Wi‑Fi modules) that share the 24V transformer to see if stability improves.
