Possible Causes
Router blocking outbound ports used by Nest, DNS issues on home network, Nest service outage, Incorrect time/date or region settings on router causing SSL failures
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: This is a network/service issue, not an HVAC wiring problem.
- Check Nest service status: From a phone or computer, search for Nest/Google Home service status to see if there is a known outage.
- Router reboot: Power‑cycle your router and modem. After they restart, reboot the Nest thermostat.
- DNS settings: On your router, try using a public DNS service (e.g., 8.8.8.8 / 1.1.1.1) and reboot the router.
- Firewall/parental controls: Temporarily disable strict firewall rules or parental controls that may block Nest’s outbound connections.
- Re‑add to app: In the Nest or Google Home app, remove and re‑add the thermostat if it remains unreachable, following the in‑app pairing instructions.
