Possible Causes
Incorrect Wi‑Fi password, Unsupported Wi‑Fi security mode, Router set to 5 GHz only with 2.4 GHz disabled, Excessive distance or interference between router and thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: No need to power down HVAC for this network troubleshooting.
- Verify password: Re‑enter the Wi‑Fi password carefully on the Nest. Confirm it works on another device.
- Check band and mode: Ensure your router has 2.4 GHz enabled and is using WPA2 or WPA3‑Personal security (not enterprise or WEP).
- Reduce distance/interference: Move the router closer to the thermostat or add a mesh node. Avoid placing the router behind metal objects or near microwaves.
- Network name (SSID): Avoid special characters in the SSID that some devices may not handle well. Test with a simple SSID if needed.
- Restart devices: Reboot the router and the Nest thermostat, then attempt to join the network again.
