Nest thermostat shows incorrect room temperature compared to other thermometers

• Compare readings: Place a reliable digital thermometer near the Nest and compare readings over 15–20 minutes.
• Check location: Avoid installing the Nest near windows, exterior doors, lamps, or electronics that generate heat.
• Seal wall opening: Remove the Nest and seal the wall opening behind the base plate with foam or putty to prevent drafts from affecting the sensor.
• Restart and update: Restart the Nest and ensure it is running the latest firmware.
• Replace thermostat: If the Nest consistently reads far off (e.g., more than 3–4°F) after environmental corrections, the internal sensor may be defective and the thermostat should be replaced.
