Possible Causes
Installation on hot surface (e.g., radiator, boiler casing), Direct sunlight exposure, Internal short or failing component, Blocked ventilation around Relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Danger: Overheating electronics can fail or, in rare cases, pose a fire risk. Disconnect power if you smell burning.
- Relocate devices: Move the thermostat away from radiators and direct sunlight. Ensure the Relay is not placed on top of the boiler or inside a hot cabinet.
- Provide ventilation: Keep at least a few centimeters of space around the Relay and thermostat for airflow.
- Power‑cycle: Turn off power to the Relay for 10 minutes to allow it to cool, then restore power and observe.
- Monitor temperature: If the device quickly becomes hot again without external heat sources, disconnect it and arrange for replacement.
Persistent self‑heating indicates an internal fault; replace the affected Netatmo device.
