Thermostat display is on but does not respond to touch or button presses; temperature and mode cannot be changed.

Safety first: Turn off power to the HVAC system before removing the thermostat from the wall.

• Soft reboot: If the thermostat has a reset option in the menu or a small reset hole, use it to reboot the device.
• Power cycle: Remove the thermostat from its wall plate for 30–60 seconds, then reattach. This forces a full restart.
• Check for physical damage: Inspect the screen for cracks or signs of impact. If damaged, the touch layer may be broken and the thermostat should be replaced.
• Update firmware: If you can still access settings via the app, push a firmware update to the thermostat.
• Replace thermostat: If the UI remains unresponsive after resets and updates, replace the Payne smart thermostat.
