Possible Causes
Failed real-time clock circuit on thermostat PCB, Loss of time sync due to Wi‑Fi issues, Corrupted time settings after power loss, Firmware bug affecting scheduling
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No high-voltage work is needed for this issue.
- Verify time settings: In the thermostat menu, check that the date, time, and time zone are set correctly. Correct any errors.
- Enable network time: If the thermostat supports network time synchronization, ensure it is connected to Wi‑Fi and allowed to sync time automatically.
- Reboot: Power cycle the thermostat by turning the HVAC breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON. Confirm whether E14 clears.
- Firmware update: Check for and install any available firmware updates via Wi‑Fi or the Ruud app.
- Replacement: If the thermostat repeatedly loses time or E14 persists despite correct settings and updates, the internal clock hardware may be defective. Replace the thermostat.
