Ruud
Improper Cycle Rate or Differential Settings
Thermostat cycles the HVAC system on and off very frequently (short cycling)
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Cycle rate set too high in thermostat configuration, Temperature differential (swing) set too narrow, Oversized HVAC equipment reacting quickly to small load changes, Thermostat located in drafty or unstable temperature area
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No high-voltage work is required.
- Adjust cycle settings: In the thermostat's advanced settings, reduce the cycle rate (CPH) or increase the temperature differential/swing so the system runs longer per cycle.
- Relocate thermostat (if needed): If the thermostat is near a supply vent, exterior door, or window, consider having it relocated to an interior wall in a representative room.
- Check filter and airflow: Ensure the Ruud system's air filter is clean and supply/return vents are open to avoid rapid temperature swings near the thermostat.
- Consult a pro: If equipment is significantly oversized, a Ruud technician may need to adjust staging or airflow settings to reduce short cycling.
