Possible Causes
Actual ambient temperature above thermostat safety limit, Faulty internal over-temp sensor, Thermostat installed above heat source (radiator, duct), Incorrect sensor calibration in installer menu
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If the room is excessively hot, ventilate the area and identify the cause of overheating before resetting the thermostat.
Steps:
- Check the actual room temperature with a reliable thermometer. If the room is indeed very hot, investigate the heating system for stuck relays or valves that may be causing continuous heating.
- Ensure the thermostat is not installed directly above a radiator, on a sun-exposed wall, or near other heat sources. If it is, consider relocating the thermostat or enabling a remote room sensor.
- Power-cycle the thermostat to clear a temporary over-temp condition.
- Enter the installer menu and verify that any temperature offset or calibration settings are reasonable (typically within ±3°C).
- If E11 recurs at normal room temperatures, the internal over-temp sensor or associated circuitry is likely faulty; replace the thermostat.
