Sensi Ineffective Cooling Control or Misconfigured System Type

Thermostat calls for cooling but room temperature never reaches setpoint

Possible Causes

Incorrect system type or number of stages configured in Sensi, Fan set to ON causing warm air mixing, Thermostat temperature sensor reading high, Cooling differential set too wide

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Configuration changes can be made without cutting power. Do not open HVAC panels unless you are qualified.

Steps to correct:

  • Verify system configuration: In the Sensi installer menu, confirm the system is set as conventional AC or heat pump as appropriate, with the correct number of cooling stages.
  • Check fan mode: Set the fan to AUTO instead of ON so that the blower does not run continuously between cooling cycles, which can reintroduce warm air.
  • Adjust cooling differential: In advanced settings, reduce the cooling differential so the system cycles more frequently and maintains a tighter temperature band.
  • Compare temperature reading: Place a separate thermometer near the thermostat. If the Sensi reading is significantly higher than actual, the internal sensor may be off and the thermostat may need replacement.

When to call a pro: If configuration and sensor readings are correct but cooling is still inadequate, the issue is likely with the AC system (low refrigerant, dirty coil, etc.) and requires HVAC service.
