Possible Causes

Faulty integrated Wi-Fi module on Stelpro thermostat PCB, Corrupted firmware affecting network stack, Excessive RF interference near thermostat, Damaged antenna trace or connector on main board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Network troubleshooting does not require power-off, but if you remove the thermostat from the wall, turn off the breaker first.

Steps to troubleshoot E6 (Wi-Fi communication):

  • 1. Reboot thermostat: Turn the breaker OFF for 30 seconds and then ON. Wait for the thermostat to fully boot and check if E6 clears.
  • 2. Check Wi-Fi network: Verify that your router is powered, broadcasting 2.4 GHz (if required by your Stelpro model), and that other devices can connect. Avoid using hidden SSIDs or unusual characters in the network name/password.
  • 3. Reduce interference: Move high-power RF devices (microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors) away from the thermostat if they are very close. Ensure the thermostat is not installed inside a metal enclosure that blocks Wi-Fi.
  • 4. Reconfigure Wi-Fi: Using the Stelpro app, delete the thermostat and re-add it, following the pairing instructions. Put the thermostat into Wi-Fi setup mode as described in the manual.
  • 5. Update firmware: If the thermostat briefly connects, check in the Stelpro app for available firmware updates and apply them. Firmware updates often resolve Wi-Fi stack issues.
  • 6. Inspect antenna (advanced): With power OFF and thermostat removed, inspect the PCB for a small antenna module or printed antenna trace. Look for cracks or broken solder joints. These typically require board replacement.
  • 7. Replace thermostat: If E6 persists after network and firmware troubleshooting, the Wi-Fi module on the main board is likely defective. Replace the thermostat with a compatible Stelpro smart model.

Note: If you do not need remote control, some models allow local operation despite E6; however, the error may remain on the display.
