Possible Causes

Stuck or seized TRV valve pin, Worn or stripped plastic gears in Tado radiator head, Failed stepper motor, Incorrect adapter causing misalignment

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Radiator valves can be hot. Allow the radiator to cool before working. Do not open the Tado head casing.

  • Remove Tado head: Unscrew or unclip the Smart Radiator Thermostat from the valve body according to the manual.
  • Check valve pin movement: Gently press the metal pin in the radiator valve with your thumb. It should move in and spring back. If stuck, carefully work it in and out several times until it moves freely. Do not use excessive force or tools that could damage the valve.
  • Verify adapter: Ensure the correct Tado adapter (e.g., M30x1.5, Danfoss RA, RAV, RAVL) is installed tightly and aligned. A loose or wrong adapter can cause motor stall.
  • Reinstall and recalibrate: Refit the Tado head, insert fresh batteries, and start the calibration process from the app. Listen for the motor moving the pin.
  • If E08 returns: The internal motor or gears are likely damaged. Replace the Smart Radiator Thermostat.
