Possible Causes

Incorrect valve adapter height, Radiator valve not compatible with Tado, Valve pin travel outside expected range, Loose mounting of Tado head

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Let the radiator cool before handling the valve.

  • Confirm valve type: Identify your radiator valve (e.g., M30x1.5, Danfoss RA/RAV/RAVL). Use the correct Tado adapter supplied in the kit or ordered separately.
  • Adjust adapter: Ensure the adapter is screwed fully onto the valve body and is not cross-threaded. The Tado head should sit firmly without wobble.
  • Check pin travel: With the Tado head removed, observe the valve pin travel by gently pressing it. If it barely moves or is extremely long, the valve may be incompatible or faulty.
  • Re-run calibration: Refit the Tado head, insert fresh batteries, and start calibration from the app. Keep the room quiet to listen for motor movement and any grinding noises.
  • If E09 persists on multiple heads: The underlying valve body may be incompatible or defective and may need replacement by a plumber.
