How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power to the HVAC system before removing the thermostat.
- Step 1 – Reboot: Remove the thermostat from the wall for 30–60 seconds, then reinstall. If the model has a reset button, press it according to the manual.
- Step 2 – Check for physical damage: Inspect the screen for cracks or signs of impact. If damaged, the display assembly must be replaced.
- Step 3 – Firmware recovery (if supported): Some models allow firmware reload via USB/SD. Follow Trane’s instructions to reinstall firmware.
- Step 4 – Replace thermostat: If the touchscreen remains unresponsive and E50 persists, replace the thermostat.
