Thermostat shows indoor humidity far from actual room humidity

Note: Incorrect humidity readings can cause over- or under-humidification.

• Step 1 – Compare with hygrometer: Use a separate digital hygrometer placed near the thermostat to compare readings.
• Step 2 – Adjust humidity offset: If the thermostat supports humidity calibration, adjust the offset to match the reference hygrometer.
• Step 3 – Improve placement: Avoid installing the thermostat near humidifiers, kitchens, or bathrooms where humidity fluctuates rapidly.
• Step 4 – Dry out condensation: If condensation is visible, gently dry the area and improve ventilation around the thermostat.
• Step 5 – Replace thermostat if error is large and persistent: A failing humidity sensor usually requires thermostat replacement.
