Possible Causes
Weak or unstable Wi-Fi signal, Router channel congestion, Power-saving features on router affecting IoT devices, Overheating Tuya Wi-Fi module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No need to open the thermostat for network troubleshooting.
Steps to troubleshoot:
- Check Wi-Fi signal strength at the thermostat location using a smartphone; aim for at least -65 dBm or better.
- Change the router’s 2.4 GHz channel to a less congested one (1, 6, or 11) and disable band steering if it confuses 2.4 GHz-only devices.
- Assign a static IP to the thermostat in the router’s DHCP settings to reduce reconnection issues.
- Ensure the router’s power-saving or client isolation features are disabled for IoT devices.
- If the thermostat is installed in a metal box or near large metal objects, relocate it or improve Wi-Fi coverage with an extender.
