Possible Causes
Welded relay contacts in receiver, Shorted wiring between receiver and boiler room stat terminals, Incorrect wiring bypassing thermostat, Internal PCB fault in receiver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: This fault can cause overheating of the property. Isolate mains power to the boiler and receiver before inspection.
- Confirm behaviour: Turn the thermostat to OFF or set a very low temperature. If the boiler continues to run for heating, the issue is likely at the receiver or wiring.
- Inspect wiring: With power off, open the receiver and check that the heating relay contacts are wired only to the boiler's room thermostat terminals. Remove any old link wires that may be bridging the terminals permanently.
- Test relay: Restore power and observe the receiver LED while toggling heating demand on the thermostat. If the LED changes state but the boiler continues to run, the relay contacts may be welded.
- Temporary isolation: As a temporary safety measure, you can disconnect one of the heating control wires at the receiver to stop the boiler firing for CH (leave DHW unaffected on combi boilers). Only do this if you are competent and understand the wiring.
- Replace receiver: A stuck relay requires replacement of the Vokera receiver unit.
