Possible Causes
Failed voltage regulator on Wyze main board, Shorted component due to surge or static discharge, Repeated brownouts from unstable 24VAC supply, Manufacturing defect in logic board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the HVAC system at the breaker before removing the thermostat display.
- Inspect 24VAC supply: At the furnace control board, verify that the 24VAC transformer output between R and C is stable (use a multimeter if available). Large fluctuations can stress the thermostat.
- Check for wiring shorts: Inspect all thermostat wires at the Wyze wall plate for stray strands touching each other or the metal back box. Correct any shorts.
- Reboot and reseat: Remove the thermostat display for 1 minute, then firmly reattach it to the wall plate to ensure good pin contact.
- Try without C-Wire Adapter: If using a Wyze C-Wire Adapter and your system has an available C terminal, temporarily bypass the adapter and connect a direct C wire to rule out adapter-related issues.
- Replace thermostat: Persistent E12 after verifying stable power and wiring usually indicates a failed logic board; replace the Wyze thermostat display.
